Yesterday Was Honestly Terrifying

Yesterday afternoon started like a totally normal day and then, in literally a few seconds, everything became chaos. My sister Agnese was riding her bike home and, because she is Agnese, she was going way too fast. She always has this slightly wild energy, like every normal bike ride needs to become the final stage of the Tour de France. I’m completely different. I’ve always been the careful one, the one who slows down before every corner and imagines all the possible disasters before they even happen. She just goes. No fear. Full speed. Main character era, basically. But yesterday it went wrong. She fell from her bike and hit the ground really hard. When I saw her knee, my stomach literally dropped. The wound was deep and there was so much blood that for a moment I couldn’t even understand what I was looking at. She was crying and screaming because of the pain, but also because she was terrified. Seeing my little sister like that was probably the worst part. Agnese is usually loud, funny and a little pazzarella, but in that moment she looked so small. I tried to stay calm for her, even though inside I was panicking too. My brain immediately went to the worst possibilities. What if the wound was too deep? What if she had damaged something important? What if they couldn’t fix it properly? I know that sounds dramatic, but when someone you love is hurt, logic just leaves the chat. My dad took her to the emergency room as quickly as possible. Everything happened so fast. One moment she was riding home, the next we were inside a hospital under those bright lights, waiting to understand how serious it was. The waiting room was completely full. There were people everywhere, tired faces, worried families and that strange hospital silence that is never actually silent. We ended up spending around six hours there. Six hours feels sooo long when you’re scared and checking the clock every five minutes. Agnese was exhausted, still in pain and obviously not in her best slay era.

Honestly, none of us were. After the doctors examined her, they told us the wound needed stitches. Hearing that made everything feel even more real. I watched her trying to be brave, then crying again because she was scared of the procedure. I felt completely useless. I just wanted to take the pain away from her, but all I could do was stay close and tell her it would be okay, even when I wasn’t fully sure myself. The doctors cleaned the wound and gave her the stitches she needed. Thankfully, they were able to treat it properly. When it was finally over, the fear slowly started leaving my body. Not completely, but enough to breathe again. She was safe. She was hurt, tired and probably already thinking about how annoying recovery will be, but she was safe. Today I keep replaying the whole thing in my head. It’s crazy how a normal afternoon can change in one second. I also know Agnese. The second her knee heals, she’ll probably want to get back on that bike like nothing happened. Maybe this time she will go a little slower... but knowing her, boh, I’m not betting on it. 😭 Have you ever had a normal day suddenly turn into a complete emergency? Tell me what happened in the comments.
