The Dream That Is Slowly Becoming Our Real Life ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ

for a long time, Spain was just one of those conversations we had at home. You know the kind. Someone says imagine if we actually moved there, everyone starts dreaming for twenty minutes, we look at some houses online... and then normal life continues. At the beginning I don't think any of us really knew if we were serious. Costa Blanca was a place we liked, somewhere connected with holidays, sunshine and that feeling of being lighter when you're close to the sea. It was a dream, basically. A beautiful one, but still a dream.
Then something slowly changed. The conversations didn't disappear. Actually, they became more frequent. My parents started looking at things differently. Not only beaches and pretty houses anymore, but real life things. Where could we live? What would daily life cost? What happens with work? Schools? Documents? Taxes? Healthcare? All those extremely unsexy questions that suddenly make a dream feel very, very real ๐Ÿ˜‚
And now we are here... at a point where I think we all understand that this could actually happen.
That's such a strange sentence to write.
My parents would basically have to create a new life in another country. I think about this a lot because for me moving has a different meaning. I'm young. Of course I have my fears, my friendships, my habits and everything I've always known here in Italy, but there is also this huge curiosity inside me. At my age a new country feels like an adventure.
For my parents it's different.
They have built an entire adult life here. Jobs, routines, responsibilities, people they know, places they don't even need Google Maps to find. Moving means voluntarily giving up part of that security and saying, okay... let's see if we can build something better somewhere else.
And I really admire that.
It takes some courage to look at your life when you're already an adult and decide that it doesn't necessarily have to stay the same forever. That you can still change direction. That you can invent another version of yourself.
The thing that attracts us so much about Costa Blanca is not the idea of living permanently on vacation. We know real life follows you everywhere. Bills still exist in Spain unfortunately lol. Problems don't magically disappear because there is a palm tree outside your window.
It's more about what everyday life could feel like.
Here in northern Italy, there are months when everything feels grey, cold and closed. You wake up when it's dark, sometimes the sky stays grey all day, then it's dark again. Of course there are beautiful things here too, and leaving Italy would probably make me appreciate many of them much more.
But imagine having the sea become part of your normal routine.
Not something you wait months to see.
Just... there.
Maybe you finish whatever you're doing and walk along the coast. Maybe we have dinner outside more often. Maybe Sunday isn't automatically a shopping centre because the weather is terrible. Maybe we become more active simply because being outside feels easier.
I imagine waking up, opening the window and seeing that very bright Spanish light. Going for a bike ride. Getting coffee somewhere close to the beach. Spending random afternoons by the sea without needing to call it a beach day. It would just be Tuesday. โ˜€๏ธ
And I think that's the part I love most.
Not creating a spectacular life. Creating a normal life that feels better.
Obviously I'm scared too.
I wonder what I'll miss. I wonder if I'll suddenly crave stupid little things from home that I don't even notice now. I wonder how long it takes before another country actually feels like your country. Maybe there will be days when one of us says, why did we do this?
There probably will be.
But there could also be a random evening one year later, all of us sitting outside somewhere near the sea, and we look at each other knowing exactly why we did it.
That's the image I keep inside my head.
This project has matured together with us. It started with curiosity, became an idea, then a possibility... and now it feels like something we are genuinely preparing ourselves for. There are still decisions to make and things that could change. I'm trying not to mentally move into a house that we haven't even found yet ๐Ÿ˜ญ
But for the first time, Spain doesn't feel like maybe one day.
It feels closer.
And perhaps the most beautiful part isn't even Costa Blanca itself. It's watching my family choose to imagine a different future together. Watching my parents be brave enough to question the life they already built. Watching all of us wonder if home has to be the place where you started... or if home can also be somewhere you consciously choose.
Maybe in the end that's what we're searching for.
Not an endless vacation.
Not a perfect Instagram life.
Just more light, more outside, more sea, more time together... and a place where the next chapter of our family makes sense. ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿค
Would you ever leave the country where you grew up to start completely again somewhere else? And if you already did it, send me your story. I genuinely want to know what that first year felt like.
