There is a specific kind of golden light that enters my room when the sun is already high. Today I opened my eyes and it was 11 AM. For me, this is incredibly late. I am usually someone who loves the early hours, the quiet magic of the sunrise over the sea, but today my body decided otherwise.
The strange thing is how I felt when I woke up. I had a completely restfull sleep, the kind of deep night where you do not even dream. Yet, when I stood up, a heavy wave of tiredness washed over me. It is a soft kind of exhaustion, the type that forces you to move slow and breathe.
Curation as a Ritual
Instead of rushing to fix my day or checking my phone, I decided to lean into the feeling. I went down to the kitchen to prepare mia colazione, my breakfast, with deliberate care. When you feel tired, the objects you touch should bring you back to earth.
I chose the heavy ceramic plate I found at a vintage market in Puglia last summer. On it, I placed some perfectly ripe peaches and a thick slice of toasted sourdough with salted butter. Then, the most important part. A double shot of espresso over ice, with just a splash of cold almond milk. It looked so beautifull under the bright sun.
There is luxury in taking forty minutes to eat a simple meal. I sat by the window, watching the linen curtains move with the warm breeze. Sometimes we need these days where productivity is not the goal. We just need to exist beautifully. ποΈ
A Quiet Reflection
I am curious about your mornings too. Do you ever feel that strange weight even after a perfect night of sleep?
Let me know how you reset your energy when the day starts late, or if you also find comfort in the slow rituals. β
