Yesterday I made a decision that sounded funny for about five minutes and then became slightly terrifying. I let my sister choose my entire outfit for the day. And when I say entire outfit, I mean everything. Clothes, shoes, accessories, even how I should wear my hair. Basically I gave away control of my appearance to someone who enjoys annoying me for sport. Smart.
At first she was way too excited. Like suspiciously excited. She opened my wardrobe and started looking through everything with this expression that immediately made me regret my life choices. I was standing behind her saying things like “please be normal” and “don’t make me look ridiculous” while she completely ignored me.
Her first choice was something I would never normally put together. A tiny top with a skirt I usually wear in a completely different way, plus shoes that I honestly thought were too much for daytime. Then she added sunglasses even though we were not even outside yet. Apparently the sunglasses were “important for the vibe.” Okay fashion director.
The worst part was that she wouldn’t let me change anything.
I tried. Obviously.
I told her the top didn’t match properly. She said it did. I said the shoes looked weird. She said I was boring. I said I wanted different earrings. She literally took the earrings away from me 😭
At one point we were arguing in front of the mirror like two stylists fighting backstage at Fashion Week, except one of us was wearing socks and the other was eating cereal.
Very glamorous.
When I finally got dressed, I looked at myself and... I hated it.
For maybe thirty seconds.
Then I looked again.
And weirdly, it wasn’t bad.
Different, yes. A little more bold than what I usually choose. Maybe more playful too. But not bad. I think sometimes I get stuck wearing things in the same way because I already know they feel safe. Same combinations. Same shapes. Same little rules in my head that nobody actually created except me.
My sister doesn’t have those rules.
She just sees something and thinks cute. That’s it. No overthinking. No “does this make sense?” No checking fifteen times.
And honestly... maybe that’s why the outfit worked.
We went out and I was still feeling a little self-conscious at first. I kept adjusting the skirt and asking her if I looked strange. She got sooo annoyed with me and eventually said, “Nobody is analysing you as much as you are.”
Rude.
Also... probably true.
After a while I forgot about the outfit completely. We got something to drink, walked around, took a few photos and suddenly I realised I was actually enjoying wearing something I wouldn’t have picked myself.
Not because it was perfect.
It definately wasn’t.
But because it didn’t feel like the version of me I always plan.
It felt lighter.
More random.
More fun.
And obviously now my sister thinks she has discovered some hidden talent and wants to style me again. This is where I need to set boundaries immediately because I can already see the power going to her head.
But I’ll admit one thing.
She surprised me.
Maybe letting someone else choose for you once in a while is actually good. You see yourself differently for a second.
Would you let your sister, best friend or boyfriend choose your full outfit for an entire day... with absolutely no changes allowed? Tell me in the comments because I need to know who would survive this challenge 😂🤍
